ABOUT ABOUT

No longer do you need big money to be the catalyst for meaningful environmental and social change in your community. This month we will feature a discussion on how small investors can put their money to work in the neighborhoods where they live. Our panelists will explain how to convert the low interest-bearing non-impact creating investment instruments that they currently hold into ones that put a priority on enriching their underserved communities, including the funding minority and female entrepreneurs and the building of affordable housing, while at the same time providing a fixed rate of return on their underlying investment.

To lead this discussion, we are happy to welcome Daniel Betancourt, President and CEO of the Community First Fund, Amy Cortese, Senior Editor at ImpactAlpha and author of the book, Locavesting, and Pam Porter, Managing Partner at Stepping Stone. Following their presentation, we will engage in a wide-ranging question and answer period with our audience.

Our speakers include:

  • Daniel Betancourt, President & Chief Executive Officer of Community First Fund, has over 25 years of experience in small business and community economic development lending. Dan is responsible for the overall success of Community First Fund and, under Dan’s leadership, it has grown into a regional Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), attracting multi-million dollar investments and with nearly $200 million under management.
  • Amy Cortese, Senior Editor at ImpactAlpha, is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in the Business Week, the New York Times, the Daily News, Mother Jones, the Daily Beast and many other publications. Her recently published book, “Locavesting: The Revolution in Local Investing and How to Profit From it”, explores how a small shift in investment away from multinationals towards locally-owned enterprises can reap enormous economic and social benefits for individuals, their communities and the country.
  • Pam (DeGraff) Porter, Managing Partner at Stepping Stone Partners, LLC, works with mission-driven leaders and organizations to design and achieve their strategic priorities. SSP provides management consulting services to foundations, CDFIs, banks, and other organizations.  Prior to starting Stepping Stone Partners, Pam served on the leadership team of Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), the national trade association for the $135 billion community development finance industry (CDFIs).
